Technical Development Lead AWS / Cloud Engineering

Salary: £43,000 - 74,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong hands-on background in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering or DevOps.
• Deep practical knowledge of AWS and the wider AWS technology ecosystem.
• Strong experience with containers/microservices and CI/CD.
• Experience designing and delivering solutions within complex cloud environments.
• Strong software engineering capability; Python experience would be particularly relevant, although broader or polyglot development experience is welcomed.
• Experience technically leading, mentoring and supporting other engineers without moving away from hands-on technology.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to challenge technical decisions where appropriate.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively with both highly technical teams and senior stakeholders.
• Genuine enthusiasm and curiosity for technology, including keeping up with emerging tools and engineering approaches and experimenting with new ideas.

• Challenge existing technical approaches and identify better ways of solving problems.
• Help accelerate the move away from traditional development approaches towards faster, iterative software delivery.
• Explore emerging technologies and identify where they can provide genuine business and engineering value.
• Support the programmes growing use of AI-assisted and agentic development technologies.
• Communicate technical concepts effectively across engineering teams, technology stakeholders and senior business leadership.

We are a leading UK financial services organisation delivering a major technology transformation programme. We are developing new AWS-based model execution and monitoring capabilities, with successful proof-of-concept work now providing the foundation for further development and scale. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving difficult technical problems and exploring how new technologies can be used to build better solutions. It is an initial contract with likely extension throughout 2027 and potentially beyond, offering flexible hybrid working for candidates based anywhere within the UK. We are particularly interested in strong technologists from cloud, SaaS, technology consultancy, digital product, gaming or other engineering-led environments, and financial services experience is not required. Desirable experience includes React, Kubernetes or container orchestration, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or CloudFormation, developer platform/tooling experience, exposure to Generative AI, agentic development or AI-assisted software engineering, and experience introducing new engineering standards, technologies or development practices.
