Requirements:
  • Were looking for strong proficiency in at least one major programming language and its ecosystem, with Java preferred, to independently design, build, and support production systems.
  • We expect hands-on experience building and supporting production Java applications.
  • Were looking for an understanding of SOLID principles and how to apply them to create well-structured, maintainable software.
  • We expect a DevOps mindset, including experience supporting production systems, resolving incidents, and performing root cause analysis.
  • Were looking for a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
  • An understanding of identity and access management concepts, such as OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC), would be advantageous.
Responsibilities:
  • We design, build, and maintain high-performing, mission-critical systems.
  • We collaborate with product managers to translate customer and business requirements into technical solutions.
  • We produce test-driven features and apply the TDD cycle.
  • We support production systems, resolve incidents, and perform root cause analysis.
  • We share knowledge with the wider engineering community.
  • We mentor, support, and help junior engineers on the team.
  • We build APIs that securely authenticate customers across Tesco touchpoints and explore authentication factors to assess the risk of individual customer sessions.

The role is based in Welwyn Garden City, with hybrid working: 60% of the week at an office or local site and the remainder remotely. It is full-time, permanent, with 36 working hours per week.
