Salary: £13,000 - 49,000 per year

Requirements:
  • 5–7 years of professional software development experience, including delivery of complex, multi-system solutions and highly scalable, internet-facing applications serving millions of users
  • Strong proficiency in .NET Core, C#/VB.NET, ASP.NET Core Web APIs, REST, application architecture, and distributed systems
  • Strong proficiency in ASP.NET MVC, including performance optimization and component architecture, or working knowledge with a backend specialization
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, Cosmos DB, and data architecture decisions
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Cursor, Copilot, Devin, or Claude Code critically and responsibly across design, development, testing, and debugging
  • Advanced experience implementing and tuning observability tools such as Datadog, Application Insights, or Amazon CloudWatch, including performance and cost optimization
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK
  • Ability to design CI/CD architectures, establish deployment strategies, and optimize pipeline performance
  • Strong proficiency with SaaS cloud architecture on Azure or AWS, including services such as Azure Functions, Queue, Blob Storage, and VMs, or AWS Lambda, SQS/SNS, and EC2
  • Strong containerization experience, such as Docker, or Kubernetes experience with production-scale deployments using AKS or EKS
  • Expertise in clean architecture, SOLID design patterns, and domain-driven design
  • Experience establishing TDD/BDD practices, team testing strategies, quality governance, and comprehensive automated testing
  • Experience profiling and benchmarking applications, developing scalable solutions, and handling internet-facing traffic
  • Confidence in vulnerability management, threat modeling, and tracking
  • Knowledge of observability, production support, debugging complex issues, performance optimization, and production troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture decisions, mentoring, cross-team collaboration, and initiatives spanning multiple sprints or quarters
  • Track record of establishing standards, driving technical excellence, and influencing technology choices
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and influence without formal authority, coach others, collaborate across Engineering and QA, resolve technical disagreements, and adapt to industry trends
  • Desirable: experience in regulated or complex domains such as finance, health, or govtech, including audit requirements
  • Desirable: prompt engineering, efficient token usage, AI interaction optimization, and practical use of the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • Desirable: advanced Datadog monitoring and APM, including custom dashboards and alerting
  • Desirable: modern UI architecture such as micro-frontends and SSR/SSG; security and compliance practices such as OAuth2, OIDC, and RBAC; event-driven architectures; GraphQL APIs; SignalR or WebSockets; DevOps automation; and advanced Azure or AWS certifications
Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver complex, scalable systems, including multi-service integrations, high-traffic APIs, and data-processing pipelines, accounting for edge cases, scalability, and maintainability
  • Own large features or components through their full lifecycle, from conception to production support
  • Lead technical discussions, influence architecture decisions, make component-level technical choices, and escalate cross-team impacts to the Engineering Lead
  • Establish architectural patterns, standards, and best practices, and ensure documentation and knowledge transfer for owned systems
  • Lead story refinement with Product Owners, contributing technical expertise to estimation and risk assessment
  • Partner with product, design, and QA teams to deliver solutions that meet business objectives
  • Influence technology choices using technical expertise and business context
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, improve team processes, and establish practices that support predictable delivery
  • Identify technical debt and system improvements, and inspire their resolution
  • Champion TDD/BDD, automated testing, shift-left testing, and team quality practices
  • Lead security implementation for complex features, establish security practices, and conduct comprehensive security reviews
  • Establish development tooling, documentation standards, and knowledge-transfer practices across team systems and deliverables
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex software issues and production incidents
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to strengthen team capability and technical standards
  • Establish team code-review standards, conduct complex feature reviews, and drive quality improvements
  • Champion continuous improvement and responsible AI adoption through team governance practices
