Senior Lead Software Engineer - Mobile Engineering
Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- Extensive experience delivering native mobile applications in both iOS and Android.
- iOS (Swift) experience, including modern iOS architecture patterns and Apple frameworks.
- Android (Kotlin) experience, including modern Android architecture patterns and Jetpack components.
- Proven experience operating at a senior technical lead level, making system-level design decisions and driving adoption across teams.
- Strong knowledge of mobile fundamentals, including performance, memory management, concurrency, offline-first patterns, networking, app lifecycle, and secure storage.
- Strong engineering practices, including writing clean, testable code, effective code reviews, pragmatic documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Strong experience with API-driven apps, primarily REST and GraphQL, and collaboration with backend teams on contracts and integration patterns.
- Track record of raising the bar on quality engineering through test strategy, automation, code review discipline, and CI/CD improvements.
- Experience working in an agile environment and collaborating with geographically distributed teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to align across multiple teams and priorities.
- Experience with React Native and/or hybrid approaches is preferred.
- Experience designing and implementing shared design systems across iOS and Android is preferred.
- Experience with CI/CD for mobile, including build automation, signing, distribution, feature flags, and release trains, is preferred.
- Experience with observability and production support practices, including crash analytics, performance monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational readiness, is preferred.
- Experience leading multiple engineers or teams, including planning, prioritization, and delivery management, is preferred.
- Own and evolve the end-to-end mobile architecture across iOS and Android, including app modularization, cross-cutting platform capabilities, and long-term scalability.
- Provide technical leadership across both mobile teams by setting standards, driving alignment, and ensuring consistent implementation of shared patterns and practices.
- Remain hands-on by building and reviewing core platform components, unblocking complex engineering challenges, and contributing to key customer journeys.
- Partner with Product, Design, Backend, Security, Risk, and QA to translate business goals into robust technical solutions and delivery plans.
- Define and enforce a high bar for engineering excellence across code quality, maintainability, security, performance, accessibility, and reliability.
- Establish and improve mobile SDLC practices, including planning, development, peer review, testing, release management, and operational support.
- Lead the mobile testing and quality strategy across unit, integration, and UI automation, and drive measurable improvements in stability and release confidence.
- Own mobile build, release, and operational maturity, including CI/CD pipelines, distribution, feature flags, observability, crash and performance monitoring, and incident response.
- Mentor and coach engineers, supporting team growth through feedback, technical guidance, and a strong engineering culture.
