Senior HPC Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience working in a genuine HPC environment and supporting shared compute infrastructure
• Linux systems administration
• HPC cluster administration and support
• Experience with job scheduling technologies such as SLURM
• Bash scripting and automation
• Experience with Docker, Singularity, or Apptainer
• Git or similar version control tools
• Troubleshooting across compute, storage, networking, and operating systems
• Desirable: GPU infrastructure and CUDA experience
• Desirable: AI/ML platforms experience
• Desirable: Scientific software deployment experience
• Desirable: Ansible, Terraform, or other Infrastructure as Code tools
• Desirable: Monitoring platforms such as Grafana and Prometheus
• Desirable: Python, R, or C programming experience

Responsibilities:

• Administer and optimise Linux-based HPC infrastructure
• Manage compute, storage, networking, and platform services
• Support and maintain HPC scheduling platforms, including SLURM
• Build and support containerised environments using tools such as Docker and Singularity/Apptainer
• Troubleshoot performance issues across infrastructure and user workloads
• Develop automation and monitoring solutions to improve platform reliability
• Work directly with users to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions
• Produce technical documentation, training materials, and operational procedures
