Senior Engineer (AWS & Java)

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong experience developing and supporting enterprise applications using Java or other JVM-based languages
• Proven expertise working with cloud-native technologies, particularly AWS services, serverless architectures and containerised applications
• Solid understanding of software testing practices, including automated testing and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices within Agile environments
• Knowledge of secure software development, web security and API security principles
• Experience with microservices architectures, distributed systems and full-stack engineering approaches
• Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to mentor colleagues and positively influence engineering outcomes
• Excellent communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance short-term priorities against long-term value

Responsibilities:

• Own services and major technical components, ensuring high standards of quality, security, performance and reliability
• Define and evolve testing strategies, embedding automation and fast feedback loops across engineering teams
• Drive improvements in observability through effective monitoring, metrics, logging and alerting capabilities
• Use engineering and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improved delivery, reliability and quality outcomes
• Champion secure engineering practices and partner with security specialists to mitigate risk effectively
• Lead investigation and resolution of complex technical incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing lasting solutions
• Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen capability across design, testing, security and operational excellence
• Influence architecture, engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives that support long-term business value
