Product Manager (R&D/Engineering) - Near Edinburgh

Salary: £70,000 - 85,000 per year

Requirements:

• A degree in a technical or business subject, or equivalent track record
• A product or project management qualification is preferable but not necessary
• A track record of hands-on technical product management and delivery ideally in an R&D/Engineering/Manufacturing context
• Experience across the entire product lifecycle, including concept stages, vision, performance, workflow and end-user considerations
• Good relationship management skills with stakeholders and ideally with other contacts such as distributors
• Comfort prioritising under pressure and confidence presenting to internal leadership and external partners/customers
• Ability to ask sharp, technically credible questions and speak with technical teams with credibility gained through previous work
• A collaborative approach with the ability to get buy-in from people who do not report directly to you
• Strong written and spoken communication skills
• Resilience to keep plans on track when priorities shift

Responsibilities:

• Shape the product roadmap in partnership with senior leadership, balancing company priorities against regional demand and commercial targets
• Turn customer and market signals into requirements documents the business can build against, including making decisions on what gets cut
• Keep plans current as scope, risk or new information shifts
• Pull together the right people from engineering, quality, operations, service and commercial functions for each release, and keep them aligned day to day
• Own the backlog and release-readiness process, applying our formal product commercialisation framework
• Spot risk early, including technical, regulatory, security and supply risks, and resolve them or escalate quickly
• Build and track budgets for products, including cost-to-completion visibility, and prioritise spend accordingly
• Bring commercial fluency in margins, revenue mechanics and pricing levers to business-case discussions with Finance and Commercial
• Feed accurate input into regulatory and legal paperwork, such as change-impact assessments and labelling, working closely with RA/QA
• Be the clear voice on what is happening, why and when for internal teams and external stakeholders
• Translate customer conversations into product positioning and a case for why the solution wins against alternatives
• Use field feedback and real-world usage data to improve usability and satisfaction after launch
• Run meetings that end with clear owners, decisions and next steps
