Engineering Lead

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Principal Engineer, Engineering Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Senior Lead Engineer, or Engineering Manager with hands-on technical involvement
• Strong software engineering background with experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale solutions
• Experience leading and developing engineering teams
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Experience working within large-scale, regulated environments
• Track record of delivering engineering transformation, modernisation, or cloud migration initiatives
• Essential technical skills in Java, REST APIs, Ansible, software engineering best practices, CI/CD, automation, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), microservices architecture, distributed systems, DevOps practices, and observability and monitoring
• Beneficial experience with Kubernetes, platform engineering, event-driven architecture, site reliability engineering (SRE), infrastructure as code, open-source technologies, messaging technologies, IBM MQ, managed file transfer (MFT), Sterling Connect:Direct, and Control-M

Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a team of engineers across a complex technology estate
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Translate requirements and business problems into practical engineering solutions
• Challenge technical decisions and ensure solutions are fit for purpose, scalable, and maintainable
• Drive engineering excellence through automation, observability, resilience, and modern software engineering practices
• Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple locations including the UK, India, Poland, and Hong Kong
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers to help build future technical leaders
• Support platform modernisation and automation initiatives
• Contribute to technical strategy, architecture discussions, and engineering governance
• Improve operational resilience, monitoring, observability, and platform performance
• Promote a build-not-buy mindset where appropriate, leveraging automation and open-source technologies
