Requirements:

• We require deep expertise in AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, and PostgreSQL.
• We require strong database architecture and solution design experience.
• We require proven experience designing highly available and resilient database platforms.
• We require extensive SQL development, query optimisation, and performance tuning expertise.
• We require strong knowledge of database schema design, indexing, and data modelling.
• We require experience with database backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery.
• We require hands-on experience troubleshooting large-scale production database environments.
• We require experience leading data reconciliation and data quality activities.
• We require a strong understanding of AWS services including IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, VPC, and Secrets Manager.
• We require experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or CloudFormation, and CI/CD practices.
• We require strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
• We require BPSS and active SC clearance used within the last 6 months with a government agency.
• Desirable: AWS Database Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect certification.
• Desirable: experience with MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, or Redis.
• Desirable: experience working in highly regulated or public sector environments.

Responsibilities:

• We lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise database solutions on AWS.
• We design and maintain database schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and database standards.
• We drive database resilience, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.
• We define, implement, and test backup, recovery, failover, and disaster recovery processes.
• We actively participate in architecture reviews, technical governance, and design authority decisions.
• We optimise database performance through query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing, and configuration improvements.
• We provide hands-on troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues.
• We perform data reconciliation, integrity validation, and root cause analysis of data discrepancies.
• We manage database upgrades, patching, security, monitoring, and capacity management.
• We work closely with architects, developers, cloud engineers, and operational teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions.
• We produce and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

We are recruiting for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) role at SIFA G7 equivalent as a contingent worker position. This is a London, Croydon-based opportunity with 2/3 days on site, offering a rate of £500-£565. We are seeking a highly experienced hands-on technical expert to help us lead critical database platforms on AWS, with additional vetting required and onboarding taking longer than usual.
