Data Engineer

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer within large-scale data transformation or migration programmes
• Strong experience with data catalogue platforms, particularly Informatica
• Excellent ETL/ELT development experience
• Strong SQL and Python skills
• Experience with metadata management, data governance and data modelling
• Experience integrating APIs and multiple data sources
• Ability to assess data quality and define migration strategies
• SC security clearance is required for this role
• Desirable experience with Defence or Central Government programmes
• Desirable experience with Microsoft Fabric, Palantir or Snowflake
• Desirable experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Desirable experience with MODNet PUID

Responsibilities:

• Assess existing data catalogue content, metadata and governance artefacts
• Evaluate migration feasibility from legacy catalogue platforms
• Design metadata mappings, transformation rules and migration approaches
• Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines
• Integrate data from multiple source systems and APIs
• Work closely with Business Analysts, Data Architects and technical teams to deliver migration outcomes
• Produce technical documentation, migration assessments and risk analysis
• Support backlog prioritisation and catalogue onboarding activities

We are hiring a Data Engineer for a Corsham/hybrid role, working 1 to 2 days per week on site, at a rate of £550 per day inside IR35. We are supporting one of the UKs most important Defence data transformation programmes, focused on modernising enterprise data catalogue capabilities. This is a high-profile MOD programme where your work will help shape migration strategy, data governance and long-term platform capability, ensuring critical defence data is discoverable, trusted and ready for future exploitation.
