Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Salary: £52,000 - 60,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong Python and backend development experience
• Hands-on experience with OpenAI / Azure OpenAI, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings and vector search
• Proven experience building agentic AI with LangGraph or similar frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, or CrewAI
• Experience with vector databases such as pgvector, Azure AI Search, Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, FAISS, Milvus, or OpenSearch
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, plus Docker and Kubernetes
• Solid grasp of API integration, tool/function calling, and agent orchestration
• Nice to have: Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Nice to have: Kafka or event-driven architectures
• Nice to have: MLOps, LLM evaluation, observability, and monitoring

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop GenAI applications using OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or equivalent LLM platforms
• Build multi-agent solutions with agent-orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph
• Create Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines over enterprise knowledge using embeddings and vector search
• Develop scalable Python backend services and REST APIs
• Integrate AI into existing business systems, databases, and third-party APIs
• Optimise prompts, retrieval quality, latency, and cost for live production workloads

We are hiring a Senior AI Engineer (GenAI) on a 6-month contract in Mid Sussex with a hybrid working model of 3 days on-site per week. The rate is £575–£625 per day. We are looking for an experienced GenAI engineer to help us design and build secure, production-grade AI-powered applications on top of Large Language Models and modern AI frameworks, working with a cross-functional team to deliver solutions that are genuinely usable at scale.
