Agentic AI Engineer (.NET) - Contract

Salary: £125,000 - 125,000 per year

Requirements:

• Proven track record building and shipping AI agents in production, including tool calling, orchestration, and multi-step workflows.
• Strong .NET and C# background, including .NET 8/9 and ASP.NET Core.
• Hands-on experience with a .NET-native agent framework such as Microsoft Agent Framework or Semantic Kernel.
• Experience building agents whose output is code, with a strong focus on validating and verifying correctness.
• Familiarity with spec-driven development, ideally Spec Kit.
• Experience integrating tools via MCP (Model Context Protocol).
• Experience designing human-in-the-loop review and approval gates within agent workflows.
• Ability to set technical direction and help upskill other engineers on agentic patterns and spec-driven approaches.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build agents that produce production-grade .NET code.
• Implement a spec-driven development workflow using Spec Kit.
• Build review and approval gates so developers can verify and correct agent output before merge.
• Integrate tools and data sources into agents via MCP (Model Context Protocol).
• Set up evaluation, guardrails, and tests to catch incorrect output early.
• Work alongside the engineering team and upskill them on agentic patterns and the spec-driven approach.

We are hiring for a 6-month contract, inside IR35, with the intention to extend as part of a greenfield multi-year programme. The role is hybrid in Bristol, with 1-2 days per week on site, and an ASAP start date. We are supporting a global technology leader and software systems business that is building AI agents to generate production .NET code under developer supervision. This is a hands-on engineering role with the opportunity to shape the technical direction, work with a diverse and inclusive team, and support a collaborative hiring process where we can provide adjustments if needed.
