Senior Backend Engineer

Salary: £26,000 - 54,000 per year

Requirements:

• Extensive backend engineering experience building highly scalable, distributed systems in production environments
• Proven experience operating services handling 20,000–30,000+ requests per second and large-scale user traffic
• Deep expertise in system design, distributed architecture, concurrency, partitioning, consistency models, and performance engineering
• Demonstrated success solving complex scaling, latency, reliability, and availability challenges in mission-critical platforms
• Strong technical curiosity and the ability to independently learn new technologies, domains, and AI capabilities rapidly

Responsibilities:

• Architect and build large-scale distributed systems capable of supporting millions of users and tens of thousands of requests per second
• Design event-driven architectures, partitioning strategies, and scalable data platforms focused on reliability and fault tolerance
• Lead performance optimization across application, infrastructure, storage, networking, and caching layers
• Own systems end to end, from architecture and development through production operations and continuous improvement
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-driven capabilities, to address complex engineering and business challenges
