IBM Network Engineer

Salary: £41,000 - 81,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience administering file transmission products such as Connect:Direct and FTP, or strong experience using these products
• Knowledge of z/OS and z/OS utilities
• Understanding of z/OS networking services, structure, related software, and protocols
• Understanding of network security disciplines, including IPSec, TLS/SSL, and certificates, and their relationship to file transmission
• Experience managing problems from initial diagnosis through resolution
• Understanding of change management processes
• Ability to customize and manage secure SNA and TCP/IP networks under z/OS
• Knowledge of mainframe network management tools such as NetMaster, and multi-session manager products such as TUBES and Supersession
• Experience managing mainframe printing products
• General z/OS systems programming experience
• Knowledge of System z hardware, including OSA-Express network cards
• Familiarity with Cisco Network Solutions
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills
• Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure
• Good organizational skills, flexibility, and adaptability
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers
• Business awareness and understanding of IT business requirements
• Willingness to keep up to date with new technology developments
• Understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act
• Experience working as a z/OS Systems Specialist in the IT industry

Responsibilities:

• Support a large-scale z/OS systems platform as part of a team of technical professionals
• Configure and maintain the integrity and data/IP security of mainframe host communication subsystems and associated program products
• Support IBM mainframe networks, transmission products, and infrastructure as part of a multi-functional team
• Participate in a support rota providing 24x7 coverage
• Perform TCP/IP port reserve additions, deletions, and changes
• Perform VTAM updates, including PU/LU updates and Enterprise Extenders (EE)
• Manage OSA adapters in a complex mainframe environment
• Implement AT-TLS rules and manage digital certificates
• Configure and manage IPSEC policies, including permit/deny rules and VPN IPSEC tunnels
• Trace, debug, and perform error analysis
• Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure network connectivity and security, including occasional after-hours and weekend work
