Software Asset Manager

Salary: £24,500 - 42,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience in Software Asset Management (SAM), software licensing, or technology commercial management.
• Strong knowledge of software licensing, compliance, lifecycle management, and licence optimisation.
• Experience managing software renewals, audits, supplier negotiations, and governance frameworks.
• Ability to analyse software, contractual, and financial data to drive cost savings and value.
• Experience working with Procurement, Finance, Technology teams, suppliers, and managed service providers.
• Knowledge of ServiceNow SAM Pro or similar asset management tools.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
• ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management experience.
• Desirable: Relevant industry certifications, such as IAITAM CSAM, ITAM Foundation, or ITIL Practice Manager.
• Desirable: Knowledge of FinOps, TBM, IT financial management, or consumption-based cost models.
• Desirable: Experience in outsourced, multi-provider, or regulated environments.
• Desirable: Experience supporting SAM transformation or tooling implementation programmes.

Responsibilities:

• Establish and lead Software Asset Management across M Group Technology, developing practices, standards, controls, and governance for managing software assets from acquisition through retirement.
• Create a robust SAM framework that improves compliance, accountability, and operational efficiency.
• Manage software licensing, compliance, and audit readiness by maintaining accurate licence positions, reconciling entitlement and usage data, identifying risks, and coordinating remediation.
• Identify opportunities for licence harvesting, rationalisation, and cost reduction, working with Technology, Procurement, and Finance to maximise software investment and deliver savings and cost avoidance.
• Build relationships with suppliers, stakeholders, and service partners, and lead software renewals and contract management.
• Use data-driven insights to support negotiations, improve forecasting, inform decisions, and ensure software assets meet business requirements cost-effectively and compliantly.
• Provide trusted insight into software assets to support informed decisions, reduce risk, drive value, and contribute to technology transformation initiatives.
