Job Description

Salary: £69,000 - 109,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong backend experience with Java
  • Experience with AWS and understanding of DevOps concepts such as infrastructure as code (we use Terraform)
  • Experience with event-streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka
  • Good grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and concurrency
  • Experience working with high-volume systems
  • Understanding of modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances
  • Strong experience with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS
  • Understanding of containers (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Expert experience with testing concepts and tools, and integrating testing and best practices into the software development life cycle
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
  • Familiarity with Agile environments
  • Passion for working in a fast-paced environment and ability to adapt to change
Responsibilities:
  • Build and optimize high-performance microservices for our marketing ecosystem, supporting real-time customer communications, personalized promotions, and targeted campaign delivery
  • Design scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data and deliver insights to marketing partners
  • Develop Martech solutions enhanced by AI to support customer engagement and retention
  • Assess future system capacity and take a long-term view of scalability
  • Simplify existing systems by consolidating redundant systems, removing unnecessary code, and updating outdated documentation
  • Coach and mentor engineers, contributing to colleagues professional development and technical skills
  • Lead projects with a holistic view of the strategic direction of the vertical
  • Define future architecture, apply modern technologies, and balance strategic development with operational improvements
  • Solve complex problems, seeking input and guidance from teammates
  • Turn defined designs into code and deliver on schedule using appropriate technologies and current engineering practices
  • Write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects
  • Participate in design, scoping, prioritization, code reviews, planning, and support-ticket reviews
  • Work effectively with teammates and identify opportunities or problems arising from technical decisions
  • Own product and technology areas and develop subject-matter expertise
  • Write simple, extensible code; test it thoroughly; and balance customer and team requirements
  • Take on projects and make software enhancements that improve our software and processes
  • Resolve complicated problems at their root cause and leave software better than you found it
  • Understand data storage, classification, and optimization techniques
  • Estimate stories and tasks, and deliver them on time
  • Keep current with market standards, open-source frameworks, and industry tools
  • Understand the maintenance characteristics, runtime properties, and dependencies of team software, including hardware platforms, operating systems, and build dependencies
  • Participate in our organizations on-call support rotation
  • Document software clearly so future developers understand the intent behind its features and components
  • Troubleshoot and thoroughly resolve defects
  • Take responsibility for the condition of inherited and newly produced code
