Enterprise Architect - Virtualization
Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- 8–10+ years in virtualization, private cloud, or infrastructure architecture roles.
- Demonstrated ownership of technical delivery for enterprise-scale virtualization or private cloud transformation programmes.
- Expert-level experience in VMware platform architecture, including vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T/NSX-V, VMware Cloud Foundation, and Site Recovery Manager.
- Expert-level experience in Red Hat platforms, including OpenShift Container Platform architecture and installation, OpenShift Virtualization, and Red Hat OpenStack Platform.
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Red Hat Satellite, and Ansible Automation Platform.
- Strong Kubernetes and cloud-native fundamentals, including networking, storage, and operator frameworks.
- Experience with migration, disaster recovery, business continuity, and private/hybrid cloud design principles.
- Fluency in VMware/Broadcom and Red Hat subscription/licensing models.
- Strong client-facing design and delivery leadership skills.
- Proven experience hosting and chairing Architecture Review Board (ARB) and Technical Design Authority (TDA) forums.
- Ability to produce and maintain architecture decision records, design standards, and reference architectures.
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) required; VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) strongly preferred.
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration required; Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) strongly preferred.
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenStack Administration required or clearly demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) beneficial.
- Adjacent experience in public cloud platforms, networking, storage architecture, security architecture, AI infrastructure, or backup and DR platforms is a strong plus.
- Own end-to-end technical delivery of virtualization and private cloud engagements, including architecture definition, low-level design, build and migration oversight, and go-live validation.
- Host and chair Architecture Review Board (ARB) and Technical Design Authority (TDA) sessions, owning governance gates, decision records, and design sign-off.
- Architect and validate VMware environments, including vSphere/ESXi cluster design, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T/NSX-V, and VMware Cloud Foundation deployments.
- Architect Red Hat platforms, including OpenShift Container Platform design and installation, OpenShift Virtualization, and Red Hat OpenStack Platform deployment.
- Lead VMware-to-Kubernetes and VM-to-container migration strategy engagements, including workload assessment, sequencing, and risk mitigation.
- Design software-defined storage and networking for virtualization platforms, including vSAN, Ceph/OpenShift Data Foundation, and NSX.
- Define disaster recovery and business continuity architectures for virtualized estates, including Site Recovery Manager and equivalent DR orchestration.
- Lead technical design workshops, present architecture options and trade-offs, and own low-level design documentation.
- Champion infrastructure-as-code and automation using Ansible, Terraform, GitOps, and ArgoCD.
- Mentor other virtualization and platform engineers and contribute to private cloud reference architectures.

We are World Wide Technology, and we are looking for an Enterprise Architect for our Enterprise Architecture - Virtualization & Private Cloud practice. This is a remote role with client site travel as required, up to 30% depending on the engagement portfolio. We are seeking someone who lives and breathes virtualization and private cloud platforms, with deep experience in VMware vSphere/NSX and Red Hat OpenShift or OpenStack, and who can guide clients through platform decisions including VMware-to-Kubernetes migration. This is a full-time, salaried delivery engineering role reporting to the Manager, ES&A. We offer the opportunity to own technical delivery end to end, mentor a wider delivery team, and contribute to our private cloud reference architectures.
