Mathematical Software Engineer

Salary: £60,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need an excellent academic background in mathematics with a 1st or 2.1 STEM degree from a very highly ranked university (Russell Group or equivalent).
• We need a relevant MSc or PhD in combinatorics, optimisation, or a similar subject.
• We need demonstrably strong coding skills in Java, modern OO C++, or possibly C#.
• We need a good grasp of software engineering practice, including version control and code reviews.
• Commercial coding experience would be valued, though it is not essential.

Responsibilities:

• We develop highly mathematical code in Java to implement algorithms used to model and optimise complex industrial processes and logistics.
• We simulate factors such as resource dependencies and scheduling interactions.
• We build software whose outputs enable substantial savings in time and costs for the end customer.
• We design, implement, and debug Java software.
• We work in large and complex codebases while applying software engineering best practice.
