Lead Data Engineer

Salary: £57,000 - 97,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for a track record of leading engineers, with 8+ years in data engineering or software engineering with a heavy data focus, including experience leading and growing engineers.
• We need deep SQL and dbt expertise, including production experience building and scaling dbt projects with models, tests, macros, and contracts.
• We need hands-on experience with Snowflake or a comparable MPP warehouse such as Redshift or BigQuery.
• We are looking for experience scaling a data platform through growth, including onboarding new business units, acquisitions, or data sources without rearchitecting from scratch.
• We need full-stack data platform judgement across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers, including BI tools, reverse ETL, and AI or agent access.
• We are looking for strong architecture and code review skills, with the ability to set technical direction through sound data-model design.
• We need stakeholder management experience partnering with product, finance, growth, and CX teams.
• We are looking for a product and business mindset, with success measured by the decisions enabled by the data.
• We value AI fluency, including using AI to write and review data models and comfort with AI agents as consumers of the warehouse.
• Nice to have: experience with CDPs and identity resolution across multiple event sources, CDC or replication tools, Looker or LookML, e-commerce or marketplace businesses, AI or LLM-facing data products, and GitHub Actions-based CI/CD for data pipelines.

Responsibilities:

• We own the data platform end-to-end, including the dbt project, CI/CD, and the Snowflake infrastructure it runs on.
• We design and lead the onboarding of new data sources as the business scales.
• We partner with data consumers across product, growth, finance, CX, and portfolio teams to model new sources cleanly.
• We run intake and prioritisation across a high-demand roadmap, sequencing work against business objectives and saying no well.
• We protect data quality through dbt tests, contract-enforced schemas, and CI that catches breaking changes early.
• We set technical direction for the warehouse and provide code review that helps data engineers improve.
• We lead and grow the team through 1:1s, feedback, and career development.
• We help build the factory, not just the models, by pushing AI into how the team works and supporting AI agents as consumers of the warehouse.
