Datacenter Technician
Job Description
Salary: £30,000 - 50,000 per year
Requirements:- 3-5 years of experience in Data Center Services, including managing servers, storage, backup, and network devices
- Provide Smart Hands support at the data center site, including 24/7 emergency high-touch requests
- Manage the on-site operations of colocation data centers, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors in line with established practices, procedures, and local legislation
- Arrange periodic and ad hoc servicing, repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules
- Perform physical electrical and mechanical maintenance interventions
- React to alarms, including BMS or plant-type alarms
- Respond to reports of environmental conditions being out of bounds
- Add, change, and remove devices, including ILO, remote managed power, and asset tracking
- Manage and maintain the DC inventory and DCIM tool
- Perform break-fix support for IT equipment in the data center
- Carry out cable mining and inspection, device labeling, cable tracking, and troubleshooting
- Support capacity management, including monitoring, remediation, planning, and maintenance
- Manage DC compliance controls, including testing, documentation, execution tracking, evidence repositories, matrices, and SOX compliance processes
- Manage DC visitor access processes and records
- Decommission IT equipment
- Monitor environmental infrastructure alerts for the data center facility
- Maintain DC floor space, including housekeeping, dust removal, vacuuming, subfloor cleaning, and combustible walkthroughs
- Coordinate infrastructure changes with providers, including scheduling, CRQ, and execution
- Audit and validate the IT container environment to ensure it meets infrastructure requirements and data center standards such as capacity, temperature, humidity, and air conditioning
- Maintain intelligent PDUs, including firmware upgrades
- Define inventory requirements for patch cords, power cables, and consumables such as label tags, cable ties, label tape, and hook-loop ties
- Monitor and report on alarms, fire, mechanical, capacity, and environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature
- Perform OE assessments and corrections
- Carry out physical server installation operations, including racking, network patching, power, and remote management
- Manage SAN fiber, SOP, JSA, BCP, and emergency response documented procedures
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for the data center facility
- Manage infrastructure and inventory asset administration for the data center
- Review colocation data center contract compliance and ensure SLAs are achieved
- Act as the business interface with colocation data center management for day-to-day operational requirements
