Senior Systems Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £63,000 - 103,000 per year
Requirements:- Advanced knowledge of Linux system administration
- Significant experience with systems automation using BASH, Python, Perl, or similar tools
- Significant experience with network fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, and HTTP
- Excellent troubleshooting skills across application, network, and host levels
- Experience writing technical documents, project plans, and progress reports for leadership and stakeholders
- Preferred: experience building and operating systems at scale
- Preferred: advanced knowledge of configuration management systems such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or related tools
- Preferred: significant experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar
- Support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS
- Investigate root causes of customer issues and monitor metrics to identify trends and anomalies
- Own services and work to make out-of-hours support as efficient as possible
- Apply Operational Excellence best practices and automate manual processes
- Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert across multiple services
- Solve complex problems and improve services and features for our team
- Take ownership of undefined problems and deliver projects on schedule using appropriate technologies and systems-engineering best practices
- Make effective implementation trade-off decisions and help others with those decisions
- Identify and mitigate issues affecting availability, performance, security, stability, maintainability, or defects
- Use Linux expertise to troubleshoot, create fixes and workarounds, and keep software up to date
- Provide data and metrics to help manage capacity and efficiency
- Lead design, scoping, and prioritization discussions
- Recommend solutions that address the impact of technical decisions across teams
- Optimize and automate team processes to meet organizational goals
- Lead implementation reviews, including designs, code, operational readiness, deployment plans, and system changes
- Anticipate and mitigate patterns that affect system performance, reliability, or availability
- Create automation that simplifies workloads at scale
- Drive SOP, documentation, and runbook creation and review them for accuracy
- Promote and apply best practices
- Recruit and interview for our team and coach and mentor others
- Communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results
- Work as self-starters, comfortable with ambiguity and change
- Stay customer-obsessed and resolve customer pain points quickly and completely
