Principal Software Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £46,000 - 86,000 per year
Requirements:- 15+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with high-volume distributed technical architectures where reliability and availability are critical
- Experience with big data technologies such as ElasticSearch, NoSQL stores, Kafka, columnar databases, dataflow or pipeline systems, and graph data stores
- Experience leveraging infrastructure services such as enterprise message bus platforms, configuration services, toggle management systems, and observability systems including logging and distributed tracing
- Experience with Domain Driven Design concepts and practices such as bounded contexts, event storming, and specification by example
- Experience with the design, implementation, and operation of data-intensive distributed systems
- Ability to design and communicate external and internal architectural perspectives for well-encapsulated systems, including service-oriented architecture, Docker-based services, and microservices
- Skilled in CI/CD with automation tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, and CodePipeline
- Knowledge of API and data model design and implementation, including scaling, high availability, and storage mapping
- Knowledge of multiple software stacks
- Skilled in designing and operating software in a cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Knowledge of algorithm development for intensive pipeline processing systems
- Understanding of how to design and develop from a security perspective
- Understanding of how to identify, select, and extend third-party components, both commercial and open source, that provide operational leverage without constraining product and engineering creativity
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship now or in the future
- Shape and evolve our architecture using Distributed Domain Driven Design practices to ensure robustness and scalability
- Drive the definition and evolution of our architecture
- Lead strategy for key architecture quality attributes such as availability, performance, scalability, and security to inform architecture assessments
- Provide project-embedded architecture consultation to promote best practices, design patterns, and informed build-versus-buy decisions
- Contribute to prioritizing platform capability improvements across feature and data platforms
- Enhance the capture and communication of architecture descriptions through automation and innovative tools
- Shepherd platform-wide strategies including naming, protocol standards, and design patterns to ensure ongoing value creation
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively in written and spoken form to technical and non-technical audiences
