Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience
- 2+ years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or equivalent training and relevant experience
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Experience in performant, large-scale system development in an object-oriented or functional language such as Python or Java
- Advanced knowledge of software applications and technical processes, with in-depth knowledge in one or more technical disciplines such as cloud, object-oriented programming, full stack development, or quantitative finance
- Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight
- Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes
- Enthusiasm to keep learning and growing in technical aptitude and business understanding
- Previous software engineering team management experience
- Preferred: experience in commodities, finance, or investment banking, or willingness to rapidly learn the business domain
- Preferred: willingness to become proficient in Python if it is not already a primary language
- Preferred: excellent interpersonal skills to interact confidently and credibly with business users and agree requirements and prioritization
- Work closely with Trading, Quantitative Research, Sales, and Middle Office teams to deliver quality code in a fast-paced environment
- Serve as a Senior Software Engineer within the Base Metals team, driving the design, development, and delivery of applications for risk management, pricing, trade capture, and physical commodities operations
- Provide technical guidance and direction to support our business teams, technical teams, contractors, and vendors
- Develop secure and high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
- Drive decisions that influence product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Promote and drive cross-functional collaboration with Core Technology teams and business teams to deliver innovative, scalable solutions
- Contribute to our engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and Software Development Life Cycle practices
- Influence peers and project decision-makers to consider leading-edge technologies
