Data & AI Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for 3–5 years of experience in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, AI Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• We need strong Python development skills and proven experience using pandas for data manipulation and analysis.
• We require a good understanding of regular expressions (regex).
• We need experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets.
• We need strong experience working with JSON, Python dictionaries, and modern data structures.
• We require experience sourcing, accessing, analysing, and interrogating large datasets from multiple sources.
• We need a strong understanding of data relationships and data modelling principles.
• We require experience performing joins, merges, and transformations across multiple datasets.
• We need the ability to identify patterns, trends, anomalies, and data quality issues.
• We need experience understanding how disparate datasets relate to one another and can be combined to generate insight.
• We require comfort exploring unfamiliar datasets, understanding underlying structures, and determining how data can be leveraged for downstream analytical use cases.
• We need experience converting and managing data between DataFrames, dictionaries, and JSON structures.
• We require experience building and maintaining data ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines.
• We need experience consuming and integrating REST APIs.
• We require an understanding of service-based architectures and API-driven data platforms.
• Experience building APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI would be advantageous.
• We need an understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts and architectures.
• We need familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and modern AI ecosystems.
• We require an understanding of how AI systems utilise vector embeddings, retrieval mechanisms, semantic search, and LLMs.
• Exposure to enterprise AI platforms, LLM tooling, or AI-enabled applications would be desirable.
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts and techniques would be desirable.
• Experience with Knowledge Graphs and graph-based data modelling would be desirable.
• Experience using data visualisation tools such as Plotly and Plotly Dash would be desirable.

Responsibilities:

• We design, build, and maintain data ingestion and processing pipelines.
• We source, access, and integrate data from multiple structured, semi-structured, and unstructured sources.
• We prepare, transform, and structure large volumes of data for analytics and AI-driven applications.
• We develop integrations with internal and external REST APIs.
• We work extensively with JSON, dictionaries, DataFrames, and modern data formats.
• We perform data exploration and analysis to understand data quality, structure, and relationships.
• We support the ingestion, preparation, and optimisation of data for AI and LLM-based applications.
• We build data solutions that enable efficient retrieval, search, and analysis of information.
• We contribute to the development of AI-driven analytical and decision-support platforms.
• We collaborate closely with engineers, data specialists, and business stakeholders to solve complex technical problems.
• We support advanced scenario modelling and what-if analysis capabilities powered by modern AI technologies.
• We stay up to date with emerging trends in data engineering, AI, and machine learning.
