Senior Technical Designer

Salary: £38,000 - 47,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong professional SolidWorks experience is essential.
• Proven experience within a technical design environment involving physical manufacture.
• Experience with SolidWorks and 3D CAD, including parametric 3D modelling, assemblies and detailed technical drawings.
• Experience in retail display, POS, POP, retail fixtures, shopfitting, branded environments, exhibitions or brand activations.
• Experience producing manufacture-ready drawings, dimensions, tolerances, materials, construction methods, Bills of Materials and specification sheets.
• Experience working directly with manufacturers, fabricators and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure designs can be successfully manufactured.
• Understanding of materials such as timber, metal, acrylic, formed plastics and print, alongside fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Confidence challenging a design, identifying manufacturing problems and questioning tolerances and construction methods.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience within an agency, production, retail design or brand activation environment is particularly useful.
• Portfolio or examples of relevant work will be required as part of the application process.

Responsibilities:

• Take approved creative concepts and develop them into technically resolved SolidWorks designs ready for manufacture.
• Own the technical design process across a varied portfolio of retail, POS and brand activation projects.
• Work closely with Project Managers, creative teams, suppliers, fabricators and manufacturing partners.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, elevations, sections, assembly drawings, Bills of Materials, specification sheets and manufacture-ready technical drawings.
• Ensure dimensional accuracy, structural integrity and manufacturing viability.
• Technically interrogate designs before they reach production.
• Consider materials, tolerances, construction methods, manufacturing processes, costs and assembly requirements.
• Identify potential problems early and recommend practical solutions.
• Apply value engineering to improve manufacturing efficiency and cost without compromising the original creative concept.
• Challenge designs and work collaboratively with creative teams to find solutions that retain the original design intent.

This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Northampton, with 2 days per week in the office. The salary is £42,000–£47,000 plus benefits.
