Senior News Taxonomist

Salary: £90,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements:

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in library, information, or knowledge-focused work
• Demonstrated interest in global news, current events, business, economics, or geopolitics
• Strong research capabilities and an aptitude for quickly understanding unfamiliar topics
• Excellent command of language, including the ability to distinguish subtle conceptual nuances
• Strong attention to detail and consistency
• Understanding of AI capabilities and how they can be leveraged safely and ethically in knowledge work
• Customer-centric mindset
• Experience in taxonomy development, metadata management, or content classification
• Good technical ability and an aptitude for learning proprietary taxonomy systems
• Knowledge of Agile working methodologies
• Proficiency in additional languages
• Experience working in remote or distributed team environments

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain taxonomy structures across subjects, industries, geographies, people and events
• Create and refine classification rules, including synonyms, variants, and scope guidance, using proprietary systems
• Review and revise classification to optimise precision and recall
• Analyse global news and business content to identify emerging topics and maintain taxonomy relevance
• Research and define new concepts, ensuring clarity and consistency
• Use AI tools to support knowledge work and taxonomy workflows, and assess outputs for quality and accuracy
• Contribute to standards, documentation, and best practices
