Principal Developer
Job Description
Salary: £70,000 - 70,000 per year
Requirements:- Strong experience with Java or Kotlin on the JVM, ideally Java 11
- Strong experience with Spring Boot
- Experience in enterprise backend development
- Experience building REST APIs and microservices
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with Git and modern development practices
- Comfortable operating at Principal level, making technical decisions and solving complex problems
- Ability to mentor and support other engineers
- Desirable experience with telecommunications billing
- Desirable experience with Azure
- Desirable experience with CI/CD
- Desirable experience with Linux
- Desirable experience with Redis or Elasticsearch
- Desirable experience with additional programming languages
- Stay hands-on with backend development, with around 90% of the role focused on coding
- Work on a large, high-throughput platform with APIs, Azure Cloud and an event-driven architecture
- Help shape technical direction, engineering standards and architecture
- Mentor other engineers and support their development
- Evaluate new technologies
- Work closely with customers and stakeholders to turn requirements into robust technical solutions

We are a growing business operating in the telecommunications and online payments space, building a large, high-throughput platform. You will join a 16-person R&D development team made up largely of senior engineers in a remote-first role. The position is based around Newbury, with an expectation of around 2-3 office visits per year, though you are welcome to spend more time there if you prefer.
