Job Description

Salary: £30,000 - 35,000 per year

Requirements:
  • A portfolio of live websites or digital interfaces showing your design skills, decisions and contribution to the finished work.
  • Advanced Figma skills, including Auto Layout, components, variants, variables, responsive layouts and prototyping.
  • Strong visual design skills in typography, layout and hierarchy, with a solid understanding of interaction design and accessibility.
  • Practical understanding of HTML and CSS, including layout, responsive behaviour and how design choices affect implementation.
  • Understanding of front-end components, including properties, states and design tokens.
  • Experience working directly with developers and reviewing implemented work.
  • Experience building or evolving a design system or shared component library.
  • Experience using AI in design work, with examples of its value and how you checked the results.
  • Familiarity with MCP and its connection between design tools and AI coding assistants, including a practical workflow use case.
  • Ability to manage several briefs, ask the right questions and flag timing or scope issues early.
  • Confidence explaining your work to colleagues in marketing, product, content and engineering.
  • Comfort discussing technical details with developers and checking interfaces in a browser; production front-end coding is not a core requirement.
  • Useful additional experience: fintech, financial services or other regulated digital products; designing for B2B and B2C audiences; interactive prototyping with HTML/CSS, JavaScript or AI-assisted coding; modern front-end frameworks such as React; usability testing, experimentation and conversion optimisation; responsive email design; Adobe or motion tools; or reusable Canva templates.
  • For your application, share two or three projects describing the problem, your contribution, constraints and outcome. Include at least one live responsive website or interface, and explain any use of AI or tools connecting design and development and how you checked the results.
Responsibilities:
  • Design websites, user journeys and responsive interfaces around user needs and business goals, for mobile and larger screens.
  • Use wireframes and prototypes to test ideas, and design interface states such as loading, empty results, errors, form validation and successful actions.
  • Use research, analytics and user feedback to identify friction and improve usability, understanding and conversion.
  • Maintain a consistent brand across websites, product interfaces, campaigns and email.
  • Create and maintain reusable Figma components, variables, design tokens and templates, keeping components aligned with those used in code.
  • Design campaign assets and emails for their intended publishing platforms.
  • Involve developers early to assess feasibility, reuse and responsive behaviour; organise design files and document interactions and implementation details.
  • Consider content, accessibility and technical constraints in design decisions.
  • Review built interfaces in the browser and work with developers to resolve visual and interaction issues before release.
  • Keep shared guidance current to reduce follow-up questions and rework.
  • Use AI where useful to explore ideas, build prototypes and handle repetitive tasks; use MCP connections to carry design context into prototyping and development.
  • Organise components, variables and documentation so developers and AI tools have the context they need; carefully review AI-generated work for design quality, usability, accessibility, brand fit and technical feasibility.
  • Use approved tools and protect confidential company and customer information.
  • Design with WCAG 2.2 AA in mind and check accessibility with developers in the working interface.
  • Work with legal and compliance colleagues to include appropriate disclosures and approved content.
  • Explain design decisions, listen to feedback and communicate what can be delivered when priorities change.
