Staff Data Scientist

Salary: £60,000 - 60,000 per year

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience working in a Data Science role.
• Fluent in querying and building large datasets, including writing production-level SQL for data-transformation pipelines.
• Prior experience designing robust real-world experiments (e.g., A/B tests) and critically evaluating test statistics.
• Strong foundations in statistics, including selecting appropriate distributions and testing the assumptions behind frequentist statistics.
• Proficiency in a statistical scripting language and data science or machine learning packages, such as Python libraries pandas, sklearn, statsmodels, or scipy, or R libraries dplyr, caret, or stats.
• Skilled at summarising, visualising, and communicating findings in an accessible and compelling way.
• A track record of influencing team direction through findings.
• A bias toward deriving actionable insights to drive prioritisation and strategy.
• Comfortable working asynchronously across time zones with cross-functional partners.
• Deep curiosity about building something new and enthusiasm for helping define AV2.0 and how we build it.
• Desired: Practical machine learning experience (e.g., PyTorch) and a passion for taking research ideas into production.
• Desired: A track record of promoting statistical rigour and experimental best practices.
• Desired: Prior experience with causal inference or econometric techniques and Bayesian methodologies for hypothesis testing.
• Desired: Prior experience using large datasets with distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, or other MapReduce technology).
• Desired: Experience working in a fast-moving technology company or startup.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with one or more engineering teams to develop actionable insights that guide improvements to the Wayve AI Driver.
• Use experimental and observational analyses of real and simulated driving to help advance the AI Drivers functionality, safety, and performance.
• Formulate and iterate on performance metrics that organise engineering efforts and guide progress toward commercial success.
• Design experiments and targeted off-road measurements to ensure we meet product requirements while maintaining safety and performance.
• Investigate factors in model training and inference that create functionality and performance bottlenecks, and identify and validate hypotheses for improvements.

The reasonably estimated salary range is $276,100–$311,400, plus a competitive equity package; actual compensation depends on skills, qualifications, and experience.
