IT Support Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £40,000 - 80,000 per year
Requirements:- Experience in first-line PC support within a customer-focused IT environment.
- Confidence installing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a broad understanding of IT systems, and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-specialist users.
- Organised, methodical, and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively while meeting deadlines.
- A proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A relevant IT qualification, such as a BTEC National Diploma, or equivalent experience is desirable.
- Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and processes is desirable.
- Experience supporting Apple Mac computers and mobile devices, and experience in a university IT environment, would be beneficial.
- Experience with asset management, including ordering and stock control, and managing small-scale IT projects, would be advantageous.
- Provide expert technical support and guidance to academics, students, staff, and visitors on a broad range of IT matters.
- Manage incidents and service requests through our helpdesk system.
- Provide assistance by email, telephone, and in person.
- Help maintain our computing infrastructure and support research and teaching activities.

We are Oxford Population Health, part of the Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford. We undertake world-leading research into long-term, chronic health conditions through large-scale studies and projects focused on identifying the causes, prevention, and treatment of disease. Our IT team supports more than 750 staff and students, over 1,000 desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, hundreds of Windows and Linux servers, and petabyte-scale storage. This full-time IT Support Engineer role is based at Old Road Campus in Headington, Oxford, and is fixed-term for two years initially. The salary is £35,681–£41,636.
