Product Manager - Payments
Job Description
Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year
Requirements:- A track record of owning platform or infrastructure products where customers are internal, ideally in payments, financial services, or integrations-heavy domains.
- Ruthless prioritisation and focus; you make high-leverage bets and cut scope decisively.
- Strong stakeholder management; you manage competing demands from AP, AR, Payroll, and fintech teams and secure alignment without direct authority.
- Multi-geography and regulatory fluency; you have built products across countries with different regulations, payment rails, and vendor landscapes without fragmenting the platform.
- Exceptional communication across technical and business audiences; you can explain payment orchestration, compliance implications, business impact, and adoption strategy clearly.
- Ability to translate platform value into commercial concepts; you drive adoption by demonstrating ROI, not by mandate.
- Nice to have: payments product management or fintech experience.
- Nice to have: experience managing 10 third-party API integrations with trade-off decisions on vendor support and lock-in.
- Nice to have: experience with embeddable UI, developer experience, and API/SDK adoption.
- Nice to have: familiarity with event-driven architecture, including webhooks, idempotency, event sourcing, and eventual consistency.
- Nice to have: familiarity with Open Banking, embedded finance, real-time payments, or API banking trends.
- Own the global payment platform roadmap for both Payments In and Payments Out.
- Design the consumption experience for internal product teams through clear APIs and embeddable UI components so AP, AR, Payroll, Expense, and fintech teams can integrate payments without managing provider complexity.
- Prioritise provider integrations and payment methods by evaluating market demand, customer footprint, and internal product needs.
- Work with providers on roadmap alignment, SLA management, feature prioritisation, and support escalation.
- Define compliance and regulatory strategy in partnership with legal and compliance, including PSD2, Open Banking, local payment regulations, fraud and AML rules, and data residency requirements.
- Drive adoption and migration of internal products from legacy payment handling to the Payments Platform.
- Own the evolution of embeddable payment UI, including hosted forms, embedded payment inputs, and payment method selection components.
- Build alignment across a complex stakeholder network by coordinating roadmaps with internal product teams, managing provider expectations, and working with sales and fintech on new opportunities.
- Deliver a clear, documented roadmap for both Payments In and Out with explicit prioritisation logic.
- Rationalise the provider ecosystem by sunsetting low-value providers, strengthening key partnerships, and putting clear SLAs and governance in place.
- Grow measurable internal product adoption across AP, AR, Payroll, and fintech teams.
- Ensure embeddable UI components are adopted across products, well documented, easy to integrate, and regularly enhanced.
- Document and establish a trusted compliance and regulatory strategy.
- Support consistent achievement of 99.95% uptime and alignment between engineering and operations on SLAs.
- Ship 2-3 major features or provider additions that visibly unlock new capabilities for internal products.
