Staff Software Engineer (Platform Capabilities)

Salary: £72,000 - 99,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer with an excellent track record of building successful platforms for internal teams or as a SaaS.
• We need an engineering leader who can solve high-level problems while also deep-diving into technical challenges in a hands-on capacity.
• We are looking for experience operating as the technical lead for a platform domain, either as a staff equivalent or a SaaS founding/lead engineer.
• We value understanding of the importance and limitations of internal platforms, including when to invest in centralisation versus bespoke solutions and how to drive adoption.
• We need experience in at least one major programming language, such as Python, Ruby, or Java.
• We are looking for a true advocate for an empowered engineering team, with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring.
• We value a strong passion for and proven experience in adopting and applying emerging technologies, particularly Generative AI, to solve complex engineering challenges and drive transformational change across an organisation.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership for the core platforms that enable our product teams to build business functionality quickly and predictably.
• Take accountability for high-level solution design, standards, engineering performance, and technology decisions within our group.
• Understand how our platform drives customer and commercial outcomes and articulate the commercial impact of technology decisions.
• Proactively identify and leverage the latest Generative AI tools and techniques to drive innovation and transform our engineering processes.
• Collaborate with customer-facing product teams to build an informed roadmap and shape the technical direction needed to deliver it.
• Translate roadmap priorities into a target system and data architecture with clear milestones for iteration.
• Perform deep-dives and troubleshoot issues in a hands-on capacity while enabling teams rather than becoming a dependency.
• Present technology solutions, risks, and trade-offs to audiences across Funding Circle and influence without requiring reporting authority.
• Represent us externally at events, share industry trends and insight, and help attract talent to Funding Circle.
