Solution Engineer Data

Salary: £70,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• We require experience in technical pre-sales, solution architecture, consulting, data engineering, database administration, analytics, or cloud technology roles.
• We require experience designing or implementing enterprise-scale data, database, and analytics solutions.
• We require experience engaging with both technical and business stakeholders in customer-facing environments.
• We require experience with operational and transactional databases, including SQL Server, Azure SQL (Database and Managed Instance), Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Cosmos DB, alongside modern analytics platforms.
• We require hands-on database migration and modernisation experience, including estate assessment, heterogeneous migration, and modernisation tooling.
• We require hands-on experience building end-to-end analytics solutions in Microsoft Fabric or comparable modern data platforms.
• We require understanding of enterprise-grade non-functional requirements, including high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, security, resilience, and cost optimisation, across mission-critical databases and analytics platforms.
• We require familiarity with AI grounding on databases, including vector stores, RAG, and connecting operational data to AI and Copilot experiences.
• We require understanding of data engineering, data warehousing, analytics, governance, and modern data architectures across cloud-native and hybrid environments.
• We require the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities:

• We lead strategic customer engagements by helping organisations modernise their data, analytics, and AI platforms to achieve business outcomes.
• We serve as trusted technical advisors, translating complex business challenges into scalable cloud, data, and AI solutions.
• We design and deliver solution demonstrations, workshops, architecture reviews, and proof-of-concept engagements that support customer decision-making.
• We partner with sales, customer success, engineering, and partner teams to develop technical strategies that accelerate customer transformation and drive business growth.
• We guide customers in adopting modern data platforms, analytics capabilities, governance practices, and AI-enabled experiences.
• We build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders, influencing architecture and technology decisions throughout the customer lifecycle.
• We contribute to competitive strategies, technical readiness, and solution innovation by sharing market insights, customer feedback, and best practices.
• We mentor peers, contribute to technical communities, and help build a culture of continuous learning, inclusion, and customer obsession.

Microsoft is hiring a Solution Engineer – Data in London, United Kingdom, with a full-time role that requires three days per week in-office and 25–50% travel. We work with organisations to modernise data estates, migrate and modernise mission-critical databases, build enterprise-grade data and analytics architectures, and ground AI on their own data using Microsoft Fabric and our broader Data & AI platform, including Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Cosmos DB, Power BI, Azure Data Services, and Copilot capabilities. This is an individual contributor role where we lead complex strategic engagements, influence at architect and executive level, mentor colleagues, and support customers across a wide range of industries as they advance their next-generation data and AI initiatives. The role includes a competitive base pay range for Solution Engineering IC4 and IC5 levels, with additional benefits and compensation available for some roles.
