Requirements:

  • We have experience with cloud infrastructure, automation, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • We have strong troubleshooting and third-line support experience.
  • We have experience with monitoring, logging, and application performance management.
  • We have scripting and automation skills.
  • We have experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.
  • Desirable: We have experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, data warehouse technologies, Learning Management Systems, Terraform, Kubernetes, PowerShell, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric, and cloud security and governance.
Responsibilities:
  • We support the implementation and continual improvement of our DevOps function, including Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • We design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation processes.
  • We maintain documented code repositories, configurations, and infrastructure standards.
  • We work closely with infrastructure teams to ensure platforms are secure, resilient, and optimised.
  • We identify opportunities to automate processes and reduce manual operational effort.
  • We act as technical architect and subject matter expert for business-critical applications.
  • We support application integration, upgrades, patching, optimisation, and release management.
  • We provide application support for core and non-core business systems.
  • We collaborate with business owners and third-party vendors on troubleshooting and enhancements.
  • We ensure applications are monitored, documented, and maintained to minimise technical debt.
  • We support the design, implementation, and enhancement of enterprise data warehouse solutions.
  • We lead Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes and activities.
  • We create, configure, maintain, and support databases and database services.
  • We optimise database performance, security, and reliability.
  • We support data integrations and reporting platforms.
  • We provide platform support for applications and operating systems.
  • We support system builds, upgrades, releases, patching, and fault resolution.
  • We maintain and optimise environments including SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, and Business Information Systems.
  • We act as part of the DevOps resolver team, resolving incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
  • We provide third-line technical support and escalation assistance.
  • We participate in major incident management and root cause analysis.
  • We maintain accurate records within our IT Service Management platform.
  • We act as a permanent member of the Technical Change Board.
  • We provide occasional out-of-hours support for critical incidents and upgrades.
  • We support the delivery of strategic technology projects and programmes.
  • We lead technical workstreams and project activities where required.
  • We produce and maintain project documentation.
  • We ensure solutions align with technical standards and organisational objectives.
  • We mentor and support DevOps Engineers and technical team members.
  • We contribute to technical skills development and knowledge sharing.
  • We assist in maintaining technical skills matrices and training plans.
  • We promote best practices across DevOps, cloud engineering, and application support.
  • We deputise for senior technical leadership when required.
  • We participate in training, development, and continuous professional development activities.
  • We maintain awareness of current technologies, industry trends, and best practices.

We are offering a Senior DevOps Engineer role based in Watford on a primarily office-based working pattern. The salary is £51,000 per annum, with hours of Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 17:00 and an early finish of 16:30 on Fridays. This is a senior technical position supporting our cloud transformation, data warehouse development, DevOps automation, and enterprise applications across a broad technology environment. We work closely with IT Operations, Project Management, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers, and the role includes mentoring, technical leadership, and support for our digital transformation strategy.
