Role Overview

As a Technical Pre-sales Solution Engineer (EMS, PPC & SCADA) at NeuVerge-Tron GmbH, you will serve as the technical lead and solution architect during pre-sales and tender phases for utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage power plants.

In this position, your core product portfolio comprises Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC), and SCADA platforms. You will analyze customer requirements, regional Grid Codes, and Transmission/Distribution System Operator (TSO/DSO) mandates, translating them into resilient, high-availability, and cybersecure system architectures.

(Note: This role focuses on control software, industrial automation, and OT system architecture; it does not cover battery cell sizing, containerized mechanical design, or civil EPC scope.)

Key Responsibilities

Technical Pre-sales & Bid Management

• Analyze customer technical specifications, RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs for utility-scale solar, wind, and hybrid BESS assets.

• Author technical proposals, functional architecture diagrams, and Statements of Work (SOW) for EMS/SCADA solutions.

• Compile compliance matrices and deviation lists addressing customer specifications and utility regulations.

• Define the Bill of Materials (BOM), covering server hardware, industrial controllers, networking equipment, software licenses, and engineering services.

• Lead technical deep-dive workshops, solution demonstrations, and clarification sessions with customers, EPC contractors, and grid operators.

Grid Code Compliance & Functional Control Design

• Evaluate regional Grid Code regulations across target European markets (e.g., VDE-AR-N 4110/4120, ENTSO-E standards) and translate them into EMS/PPC control requirements

• Architect plant-level control logic, including Active Power Control, Reactive Power/Power Factor Regulation, POI/PCC Voltage Support, Frequency Response, and Ramp Rate restrictions.

• Define EMS-level operational strategies, such as automated dispatch tracking, State of Charge (SoC) management constraints, energy arbitrage scheduling, ancillary service controls, and fail-safe/black-start logics.

System Integration & Communication Architecture

• Design overall system architectures connecting EMS, PPC, SCADA, Historian, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI).

• Define interface specifications for external subsystems: Battery Management Systems (BMS), Power Conversion Systems (PCS), MV switchgear, digital protection relays, power meters, and TSO/DSO dispatch centers.

• Develop and maintain interface control documents (ICD), data point lists, and signal mapping registers.

• Implement and validate standard industrial protocols, including Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850 (MMS/GOOSE), DNP3, and OPC UA.

• Architect high-availability schemes, redundancy topologies, automated failover mechanisms, time synchronization (NTP/PTP), and disaster recovery plans.

OT Networking & Cybersecurity Architecture

• Design Operational Technology (OT) network topologies, VLAN segmentations, IP addressing schemes, and DMZ firewall policies.

• Formulate secure remote maintenance topologies, jump host concepts, VPN tunnels, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) mechanisms.

• Ensure EMS solution adherence to cybersecurity standards, including IEC 62443 and IEC 62351 frameworks.

• Collaborate with customer IT/OT security teams and external auditors during security reviews and threat modeling assessments.

Verification & Handover

• Define verification scopes and technical criteria for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and grid compliance commissioning.

• Support engineering, commissioning, and project management teams during post-award handover to ensure seamless project delivery.

Scope Boundaries

• To preserve focus on control systems and software integration, this position explicitly excludes:

• Battery cell/module selection, chemistry evaluation, and electrochemical degradation modeling.

• Mechanical layout, thermal HVAC design, or fire suppression engineering of BESS containers.

• Primary high/medium voltage electrical hardware engineering (transformers, switchgear internals, or EPC civil infrastructure).

Qualifications & Profile

Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Power Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Professional Experience:

• 3 to 5+ years of experience in technical presales, solution architecture, or systems engineering focusing on EMS, PPC, or SCADA in power generation or grid utilities.

• Practical familiarity with grid integration procedures and technical dialogue with European grid operators (TSOs/DSOs).

Technical & Protocol Competencies:

• Solid understanding of power utility communication standards: IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, and OPC UA.

• Hands-on experience with industrial automation platforms (PLCs/RTUs), real-time historians, and SCADA packages.

• Working knowledge of industrial cybersecurity best practices (IEC 62443 / IEC 62351).

Key Competencies:

• Strong analytical capability to dissect technical tender documents into structured requirements.

• Confident presentation skills in customer-facing technical exchanges and contract negotiations.

Language Skills:

• Professional fluency in English (written and verbal) is required.

• German language or any other third EU or Chinese proficiency are strongly preferred.
