Software Engineering Team Lead (Remote)

Salary: £52,000 - 52,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experienced and passionate technical software engineering leader
• Deep, hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes
• Strong architectural oversight and people leadership skills
• Technical excellence and the ability to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions aligned with product strategy
• Proactive leadership, sound delegation, and the ability to coach and mentor individual contributors
• Strong communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and work effectively in a fast-paced startup where priorities can change
• Self-starter who is adaptable and takes initiative

Responsibilities:

• Drive the design, development, and delivery of our core microservices
• Drive architectural decisions and set technical standards
• Design, document, and ensure the quality of robust, efficient HTTP/REST APIs, using tools such as OpenAPI/Swagger
• Oversee and implement strategies for system scalability, resilience, and high availability, including monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization
• Monitor team progress, support consistent delivery across agile sprints, and identify and remove technical impediments
• Collaborate with the Product Manager on capacity planning, roadmap definition, and balancing feature delivery with technical debt
• Guide the selection of technical solutions and technologies, and help resolve complex engineering challenges
• Identify and resolve ambiguity in technical requirements and product strategy
• Manage team performance, define and track key performance indicators, and drive continuous improvement
• Foster an AI-native engineering culture, including adoption of agentic coding workflows to improve developer velocity
• Coach and mentor team members, delegate work appropriately, and support accountability and professional growth
• Facilitate effective communication between our team and other engineering groups
• Adapt to changing priorities and contribute or lead in other areas as needed
