Job Description

Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and proficient applied experience
  • Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in a large corporate environment, including event-driven architectures and streaming patterns (Kafka)
  • Proficiency in Java and building services with Spring Boot, and strong expertise in React with TypeScript to build robust, maintainable frontend applications; strong UI fundamentals with HTML/CSS and responsive design, including experience building reusable components and libraries
  • Experience building and consuming APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and integrating with downstream systems
  • Strong experience with relational databases including Oracle and/or PostgreSQL, with solid SQL skills; experience with caching patterns and technologies (e.g., Redis) to improve performance and scalability
  • Proficiency in software testing practices (unit, integration, and/or UI testing) to ensure quality and reliability, and active participation in code reviews and constructive feedback practices that promote continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle and agile practices, including CI/CD, and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) and containerized deployment and operations using Kubernetes
  • Experience building and supporting scheduled jobs and batch processing workloads (e.g., Spring Batch or equivalent patterns)
  • Working knowledge of search/indexing concepts, including designing and querying Elasticsearch indexes
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations
  • Working knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or service development
  • Experience with .NET, including building and supporting enterprise services and the ability to work across multiple technology stacks
  • Knowledge of agentic frameworks such as Google ADK or LangChain
  • Familiarity with monitoring, tracing, and troubleshooting tools such as log aggregation platforms, API testing tools, and observability dashboards
Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver robust full-stack solutions using Java/Spring Boot and React/TypeScript, applying sound engineering judgment to meet non-functional requirements including security, resiliency, and performance, and delivering iterative improvements for product teams
  • Partner closely with product and UX to understand requirements, refine designs, and deliver intuitive, accessible, and consistent user experiences
  • Contribute to end-to-end delivery of features across the software development lifecycle including requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, and production support, with clear accountability for your outcomes
  • Build secure, high-quality, production-ready UI using React, HTML, and CSS, leveraging reusable components, patterns, and libraries for consistency and speed
  • Develop backend services and APIs integrating with relational databases and enterprise systems, applying sound data design and SQL practices, and contribute to architecture and design artifacts (e.g., technical designs, diagrams, architecture decision records) ensuring implementation aligns with design constraints and architecture standards
  • Contribute to event-driven and streaming architectures using Kafka, including topic design, schema/contract strategy, and resilient producer/consumer patterns
  • Support containerized service delivery and operational readiness using Kubernetes, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation
  • Support scheduled and background processing (e.g., scheduled jobs and batch processing such as Spring Batch) where applicable to platform capabilities
  • Support operational stability and reliability by contributing to incident response and root cause analysis, analyzing diverse datasets, logs, and telemetry to identify patterns, build visualizations and reporting, and reduce repeat incidents via preventative controls, automation, and enhanced observability
  • Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards
  • Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
