Software Engineer (Digital)

Salary: £38,000 - 78,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need experience with React, including component architecture, hooks, and state management.
• We need experience with Next.js, including App Router, server components, server-side rendering, static generation, middleware, and API routes.
• We need TypeScript experience across both front-end and back-end.
• We need experience with CSS, including Tailwind CSS or CSS Modules, and responsive, accessible design.
• We need experience with headless CMS integration, particularly Optimizely and Bloomreach.
• We need .NET 8 / ASP.NET Core experience for REST API development.
• We need experience with clean, idiomatic C#.
• We need experience with microservices patterns, including independently deployable services, API contracts, loose coupling, and domain-driven service boundaries.
• We need experience with messaging patterns using AWS SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
• We need experience with RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger, API versioning, and documentation.
• We need experience with authentication and security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, OWASP, and PCI-DSS awareness.
• We need experience with AWS Lambda and AWS ECS/Fargate.
• We need experience with supporting AWS services such as API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch, X-Ray, and Parameter Store/Secrets Manager.
• We need Docker experience for containerising .NET microservices.
• We need CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions.
• We need testing experience with xUnit, Moq, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
• We need experience with Git, branching strategies, pull request workflows, and semantic versioning.
• We need observability experience, including structured logging, CloudWatch metrics and alarms, and distributed tracing.
• Experience with OpenAI API or equivalent LLM integration would be beneficial.
• Experience with WhatsApp Business API and Amazon Connect integration would be beneficial.
• Hospitality domain experience with iStay and Maestro APIs would be useful but not required.

Responsibilities:

• We build and maintain features across our guest-facing digital products using React and Next.js, implementing server-side rendering, static generation, and client-side interactions.
• We contribute to the continuous improvement of our website, including search experience, booking funnel, conversion optimisation, and promotional campaign delivery.
• We build and maintain our guest portal, delivering logged-in guest journeys including pre-stay upsell, activity booking, and in-stay engagement features.
• We contribute to our loyalty platform features, including enrolment flows, member personalisation, and loyalty mechanics.
• We design and build .NET 8 / ASP.NET Core microservices that form the back-end of our digital platform.
• We implement REST APIs, domain logic, and integrations with our core systems.
• We deploy and operate microservices on AWS using Lambda and ECS/Fargate.
• We implement event-driven communication between services using AWS SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
• We contribute to integrations with the WhatsApp Business API via Amazon Connect.
• We design RESTful APIs to agreed standards, including OpenAPI specifications, versioning, and documentation.
• We work with the Integration Architect to ensure our services meet API governance standards and are registered in the API catalogue.
• We consume and integrate third-party APIs, implementing appropriate error handling, retry logic, and circuit breakers.
• We write unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests for our features and services.
• We commit code through CI/CD pipelines and follow branching, automated build, test, lint, and deployment processes.
• We participate in code reviews and respond to feedback on our own code.
• We monitor production services and respond to incidents within our service domain.
• We participate fully in sprint ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• We work collaboratively with our nearshore engineering partner, sharing context and contributing to a high-performing engineering culture.
