Senior Software Engineer (Java & JavaScript)

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:

• Knowledge of software development methodologies, such as Agile and Waterfall
• Intermediate proficiency with data manipulation languages, including optimization techniques
• Intermediate understanding of normalized and dimensional data-modelling principles
• Intermediate knowledge of multiple data-storage subsystems
• Confident practitioner in development languages and technologies including Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows, and Unix
• Experience with Keycloak, Auth0, or another identity provider, including realm configuration, authentication flows, and OIDC client setup
• Proficient research skills
• Developing knowledge of industry best practices in software development
• Knowledge of applicable development toolsets
• Ability to work effectively with technical personnel and internal and external technology resources
• Knowledge of test-driven development
• Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for complex system components
• Ability to complete complex bug fixes
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Preferred: experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Codex for test authoring, stub generation, coverage analysis, or test-output investigation
• Preferred: experience using AI-assisted tools as productivity accelerators within a quality engineering workflow, with appropriate review and validation
• Preferred: experience with Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code tool, including reading infrastructure definitions and understanding how configuration changes affect system behaviour and test coverage
• Preferred: experience working with Docker and Kubernetes

Responsibilities:

• Undertake research, design, and software development assignments within a software functional area or product line
• Provide input to project plans, schedules, and methodologies for cross-functional software products
• Design software across multiple components
• Work with users and customers to understand requests and translate them into solutions
• Interface with technical personnel and team members to finalize requirements
• Write and review portions of detailed specifications for complex system components
• Complete complex bug fixes
• Implement continuous integration, delivery, and deployment practices, and guide others in their use
• Identify operational requirements for logging, instrumentation, and alerting, and work with senior team members to ensure they are met
• Work with development team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software designs
• Apply development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews
• Work across development environments, including Agile and Waterfall, while collaborating with stakeholders
• Resolve intermediate technical issues as needed
• Pair program with squad members to support their learning and development
• Develop mentoring skills and help less senior developers with development methodologies and optimization techniques
