Job Description

Salary: £42,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial software testing experience in Agile delivery environments
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript
  • Experience implementing automation frameworks using Page Object Model (POM) or similar design patterns
  • Manual testing experience across web applications, APIs, backend systems, and end-to-end business processes
  • Experience testing RESTful APIs using Postman or similar tools
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data validation, investigation, and verification
  • Experience using GitHub or other Git-based version control systems
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing practices
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC)
  • ISTQB Foundation Certification or equivalent testing qualification
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Understanding of test automation principles and modern software testing practices
  • Methodical approach to defect investigation; self-motivated and accountable, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and contribute proactively as a collaborative team player
  • Desirable: Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD platforms
  • Desirable: Experience testing cloud-hosted applications and services
  • Desirable: Exposure to Behavior Driven Development (BDD) tools such as Cucumber
  • Desirable: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
  • Desirable: Exposure to performance or load testing tools such as JMeter or k6
  • Desirable: Familiarity with cross-browser and cross-device testing
  • Desirable: Experience with API automation testing and API mocking or stubbing techniques
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated UI and API tests using Playwright and POM principles; contribute to improving automation frameworks and best practices
  • Perform exploratory, functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing across web applications, APIs, and backend services
  • Create and maintain test cases, scenarios, plans, and test data for manual and automated testing
  • Conduct API testing using Postman, Playwright, or similar tools to check functionality, reliability, and data integrity
  • Integrate and maintain automated tests in CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and rapid feedback
  • Use GitHub and source-control best practices to manage automation code and support collaborative development workflows
  • Identify, document, prioritise, and retest defects, working with development teams to support timely resolution
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, refinement, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Promote a quality-first mindset and help improve testing processes, tools, and standards

We are Bytes Software Services, and we are seeking an experienced, motivated QA Automation Engineer for our QA Test team within Systems Development. The role reports to the QA Manager and works closely with Developers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and DevOps teams in a collaborative Agile environment. You will help grow our automation capability, improve release confidence, and support high-quality software delivery. The position is based at Randalls Way, Leatherhead KT22 7TW, UK, and requires at least three days per week onsite to support collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
