Principal Software Engineer

Salary: £35,000 - 69,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience owning and leading project teams delivering significant software developments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• 15 years software development experience.
• Excellent understanding and experience of object-oriented software design with C++.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
• Creative and analytic problem-solving skills.
• Effective at working directly with end customers and users.
• Software-based degree, or an engineering/science degree with a software bias.
• Experience in the development of security/defence command and control software.
• Experience working with or knowledge of SQL databases.
• Knowledge and experience of effective UI design and UX best practice.
• Good understanding of real-time software design and development.
• Experience with embedded Linux and embedded software development.
• Mathematical and statistical analysis skills.

Responsibilities:

• Guide the design and development of major components of our radar command and control software.
• Design and develop software to aid integration with third-party surveillance and security systems.
• Design and develop software to improve and enhance our users experiences.
• Lead by example in the improvement of software engineering techniques and processes.
• Take ownership of significant product developments working with cutting-edge radar hardware.
• Steer the development of major new Nexus features.

We are expanding our software engineering team to meet the requirements of a demanding and exciting product roadmap. At Blighter, we develop the software needed to use our range of radar products, from onboard processing software to external command and control. We are undertaking a program of extensive software development to deliver the capabilities that our next-generation radars require. This senior role focuses on the design and architecture of complex data processing, distribution, and display systems for our BlighterNexus radar command and control software. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of BlighterNexus and the radar software it interfaces with. The role is hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office.
