GIS Specialist
Job Description

Requirements:- A degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning or a related subject, or equivalent experience
- Experience of geocoding and working with GIS software, particularly ArcGIS Pro or QGIS
- Strong analytical and data management skills, including data quality assurance and basic SQL
- Excellent knowledge of the geography of Great Britain
- The ability to work accurately and independently while managing deadlines
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Desirable: experience working with longitudinal datasets
- Desirable: experience with Ordnance Survey data, including AddressBase and MasterMap
- Desirable: experience with historic mapping
- Desirable: familiarity with the British National Grid coordinate system
- Support the manual geocoding of approximately 10,000 residential addresses across three UK longitudinal cohort studies: NCDS, BCS70 and Next Steps
- Use ArcGIS Pro, historic Ordnance Survey mapping and AddressBase data to identify residential property locations
- Assign accurate property centroids and, where available, Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs)
- Resolve incomplete or inaccurate address information using a range of spatial data sources

We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Specialist to support nationally important longitudinal research across NCDS, BCS70 and Next Steps. This is a contract role until the end of December 2026, with occasional office attendance at our Bloomsbury office rather than every week. The pay rate is £23.11 per hour PAYE plus holiday pay, or £31.34 per hour via an umbrella company, with an annual equivalent of £43,981.
