Data Engineer

Salary: £59,000 - 99,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience in data engineering, analysis or science, with a solid understanding of programming languages and how to apply them in a previous role
• Experience using data engineering tools and technologies, including ETL tools, Python and big data applications
• Demonstrable ability with previously used technologies, plus adaptability and willingness to learn
• Good understanding of open source software for data engineering and the ability to evaluate platforms against products
• Ability to analyse a customer problem, evaluate options and recommend solutions
• Understanding of database concepts, including unstructured data, NoSQL and big data platforms, and object and data modelling techniques
• Experience working in cyber security and intelligence is desirable, but not essential
• Successful candidates must hold an active eDV before applying
• All applicants must, as a minimum, achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test and support data collection, data integration and ETL applications to make information and data available to key client stakeholders and technical interfaces
• Model data requirements, data sources and data flows to bring order and structure to programmes of work
• Define how and where data is created, mastered and destroyed to ensure proper control over the lifecycle of corporate data assets
• Use categories of products to collect, integrate, store, visualise and govern data and metadata
• Define metadata to provide searchability and governance, including records management, for unstructured data
