Application Database Administrator

Salary: £63,000 - 103,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience as an Application DBA.
• We need good knowledge of CA IDMS / IDMS DB/DC in mainframe environments.
• Experience with COBOL, JCL, CICS, and the z/OS platform is required.
• You should understand database structures such as schemas, areas, records, sets, and subschemas.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures, as well as disaster recovery processes, is required.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are essential.
• You should be able to work in production support and high-pressure environments.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills are needed.
• 7-10 years of experience are required.

Responsibilities:

• We manage and maintain IDMS schemas, subschemas, areas, sets, records, and database definitions.
• We support application development teams with database design, query optimization, and change implementation.
• We perform database performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning.
• We troubleshoot production issues, analyze root causes, and implement permanent fixes.
• We execute database reorganization, backup, recovery, and migration activities.
• We review and implement database changes through release management processes.
• We ensure database security, integrity, and compliance with organizational standards.
• We prepare technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• We coordinate with mainframe operations teams for batch jobs and system upgrades.
• We participate in on-call support and incident management as required.
