Principal AI Engineer

Salary: £67,000 - 107,000 per year

Requirements:

• Were looking for proven experience building agentic AI systems, including leading features in this area and understanding how to test and scale them.
• Were looking for a strong programming background, ideally in Java, and hands-on experience building scalable distributed systems on AWS.
• We value technical leadership experience, including influencing architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Full-stack capability is a strong plus, particularly React, TypeScript, and Tailwind; familiarity with frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph is welcome.
• Were looking for someone adaptable and comfortable with evolving requirements and ambiguity, with a bias for action when adopting and championing new technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical architecture and design for our Maia team, working within a squad to define direction, validate proposals, and build scalable, maintainable software.
• Drive agentic AI feature development by building tools, integrations, and workflows for Maia.
• Explore developments in generative AI, trial new models, tools, and approaches, and share insights that inform team strategy and new ways of working.
• Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews, design input, and hands-on guidance.
• Collaborate with our Product Manager and Data Science team to turn product vision into technical solutions while balancing innovation, code quality, and delivery pace.
