Policy Adviser (Dairy)

Salary: £40,000 - 40,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
• We need knowledge of the UK food industry, policy development or government decision-making processes.
• We need strong communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
• We need the ability to translate technical information for a variety of audiences.
• We need a strategic thinker who can work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver results.
• An understanding of agriculture or the dairy sector would be advantageous.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach would be advantageous.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and AI tools would be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

• We champion the interests of dairy farming members and help shape the future of the dairy sector.
• We work closely with the National Dairy Board and industry stakeholders.
• We provide expert policy advice.
• We develop lobbying strategies.
• We analyse legislative, technical and market developments.
• We communicate complex policy issues clearly.
• We build influential relationships.
• We ensure members are informed and represented on the issues that matter most to their businesses.

We are the National Farmers Union (NFU), the biggest farming organisation in the UK, and we represent around 44,000 British farmers and growers. We shape attitudes towards British farming and lead on major issues including climate change, food standards, rural crime and broadband rollout. This Policy and Trade & Business Strategy team develops and influences policies that benefit farming businesses across the UK, working with stakeholders from government ministers and civil servants to the media and local NFU branches. The role is based in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire with agile working.
