Lead Engineer

Salary: £72,000 - 82,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience delivering production-grade software and scalable solutions
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and systems-thinking capability
• Experience leading technical delivery across engineering teams
• A focus on quality, maintainability and operational excellence
• Confidence engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience building and shipping production-grade software, most likely in Python, C# .NET or similar technologies
• Comfort making technical decisions across architecture, delivery and engineering quality
• Understanding of what is happening under the hood when working with modern AI-enabled tooling
• Exposure to generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Experience with Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot and similar tools
• Exposure to AI-enabled products, services or integrations
• Experience with modern software delivery and emerging AI engineering practices

Responsibilities:

• Act as the senior technical voice across one or two delivery teams
• Remain hands-on while building solutions
• Mentor engineers
• Drive engineering excellence throughout the delivery lifecycle
• Work closely with Product Managers, Architects and business stakeholders
• Translate complex challenges into scalable technical solutions
• Ensure quality, maintainability and delivery predictability remain central
• Help shape engineering standards, best practices and the future direction of the wider technology function
