Software Engineer - Java
Job Description
Salary: £69,000 - 109,000 per year
Requirements:- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience and passion for writing highly scalable, fault tolerant, always available backend systems and APIs using Java
- Good grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and handling concurrency
- Understanding of modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances
- Knowledge of release process best practices for APIs and services within production systems
- Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS
- Experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices in the SDLC
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
- Familiarity working in an Agile environment
- Passion for working within a fast-paced environment and ability to adapt to change
- Own parts of product and technology and strive to become a subject matter expert
- Write simple, extendable code following standards and best practices
- Test code thoroughly
- Ensure high code quality in code reviews
- Help foster an effective and collaborative code review culture
- Independently design software components in well-scoped scenarios with simplicity and maintainability in mind
- Make components testable, debuggable, and built with logical APIs that are not easily misused
- Know when to make significant refactors and when it is better to leave things as-is
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews
- Clearly document software so future developers understand the intent behind the features and components
- Troubleshoot and thoroughly resolve defects when problems arise
- Provide excellent customer support
- Work effectively with other team members and identify opportunities or problems arising from technical decisions
- Use technology to solve straightforward problems and seek input and guidance from team members
- Create or improve small tools or applications
- Take defined designs and turn them into code delivered on schedule
- Write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects
- Apply appropriate technologies and current software engineering best practices
- Learn the business context and technologies behind the teams software
- Invent, refine, and develop solutions to ensure they meet customer needs and team goals
