Senior Engineer - Business Intelligence
Job Description
Salary: £76,000 - 98,000 per year
Requirements:- Degree-level qualification in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or extensive professional software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on front-end and full-stack application development
- Demonstrable experience designing, building, and shipping production-grade applications using at least one modern front-end framework such as React, Vue, or Angular
- Solid back-end capability to consume well-designed APIs and integrate with data services, including comfort working with REST and GraphQL APIs, understanding authentication patterns, and handling versioning
- Proven experience with Databricks Apps or equivalent application deployment platforms
- Strong proficiency in DevOps practices including Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management, using tools such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams with data scientists, ML engineers, data engineers, and business stakeholders
- Experience across multiple front-end frameworks with the ability to evaluate trade-offs
- Background with Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms
- SQL expertise and strong data literacy, plus experience mentoring junior colleagues
- Build and ship production apps using Databricks Apps as the primary platform, while exploring other frameworks where they better suit the role
- Translate complex business requirements into clean, intuitive interfaces, then iterate based on user feedback and usage patterns
- Own the full application lifecycle from proof of concept through to production, including testing, documentation, and deployment practices
- Integrate reliably with APIs and data services owned by the Data Science team, including REST, GraphQL, and MCP, and provide structured feedback on performance and usability
- Create compelling data visualisations and interactive analytics that feel modern and engaging
- Keep applications fast, maintainable, and scalable through effective state management, efficient data handling, and strong performance practices
- Set technical standards and best practices by defining coding standards, testing approaches, documentation, and architectural patterns for the team
- Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration to build application development skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement
