Principal Linux/Android Platform Developer

Salary: £53,000 - 93,000 per year

Requirements:

• Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline
• Good understanding of the Android architecture and ecosystem, including low level and security
• Experience of Linux kernel and system programming
• Experience optimising Linux/Android performance, including power management
• Experience with most of the following: Binder, AIDL, services (C++/Java), framework APIs, NDK, JNI, CTS, SE Linux
• Excellent knowledge of C++ in real-time, multi-processor, multi-threaded, event-driven software
• Experience of developing for mobile platforms
• Experience with development tools for debugging, profiling, code coverage, memory leak detection, and related analysis
• Structured working practices with a practical understanding of quality software development processes
• Experience with Linux open-source project configuration management and patching techniques
• Familiarity with working with a hardware development team, including interpretation of schematics and debugging using logic analysers and oscilloscopes

Responsibilities:

• Develop, configure and tune the Android platform
• Make Android framework and service alterations
• Work with the Android development toolchain
• Carry out Android platform development and kernel configuration, including modifications to the scheduler, performance optimisations and latency reduction
• Trial and integrate open-source development tools for debugging, profiling, code coverage and memory leak detection
• Prototype demonstration systems to generate early feedback on proposed solutions
• Produce architectural, design and test specifications
• Perform integration testing, investigate issues and resolve defects
• Participate in project planning and technical reviews
• Work as part of an agile scrum team to progress projects and produce mission-critical products
• Collaborate with managers, team members and other departments across the business
